Gesta Flattens Trazancos in Seven

By German Villasenor

Filipino southpaw Mercito “No Mercy” Gesta, 19-0-1 (9), retained his undefeated streak with a brutal KO over Genaro Trazancos, 22-12-1 (13), in the seventh round of Telefutura’s “Solo Boxeo” main event at the Casino Del Sol in Tucson, AZ.

Gesta, fighting with a low guard, would slowly draw in the frontal veteran Trazancos, getting the range in the first round.

Gesta allowed his opponent to get in unnecessary shots in the second round, with the mindset changing rapidly as the Filipino’s head was rattled back violently at the end of the round by Trazancos landing a hard straight hand to the chin.

Gesta got back to work in the third, going to the body with uppercuts, leaving Trazancos’ left side of his body reddened by the end of the round.

The southpaw walked down the 35-year old Trazancos in the fourth and fifth, concentrating to the body, mixing in straight lefts to the head, with the Mexican mixing it up a bit in the late stages of the round.

Very comfortable at this stage in the fight, Gesta’s uppercuts landed clean on the angle as Trazancos hung in there, getting nailed three-to-one for his efforts and walking back to his corner with a rapidly closing eye.

Gesta finally stepped up in the seventh, landing a series of shots, with Trazancos walking back off-balance. A crushing straight left sent Gesta’s opponent down hard to the canvas with the Mexican’s head bouncing very hard off the canvas.

The referee immediately waved off the fight at 53 seconds on the advice of the corner of the fallen fighter’s corner’s.

Late replacement Lopez Defeats Landeros in eight

In the co-featured bout, super featherweight Adolfo ’’El Terror’’ Landeros, 20-15-1 (9), took center stage against Noe ’’El Chamaco’’ Lopez Jr., 6-5 (4), after the latter replaced Michael ’’Lil Warrior’’ Franco, who pulled out of the fight after suffering a detached retina during training.

The southpaw Lopez jumped in early with quick shots in the first round, landing sharp punches, using his greater reach, and keeping Landeros off-balance, for the most part.

Landeros looked tight, unable to pull the trigger, getting caught on every attempted exchanged in the second, with a short, inside left hand by Lopez putting his foe on the canvas at the end of the round.

Lopez picked up where he left off in the third, beating Landeros from post to post in the first half of the around.

Landeros survived, walked forward, stalking and getting caught with long-range shots at the end of the round.

Lopez worked the body and head, landing clean shots against the ropes in the following round, with Landeros walking back to his corner sporting a bloody nose.

Both men mixed it up on even terms in the next round.

After controlling the majority of the round, using effective pressure and volume punching, Landeros went back into full retreat mode in the last minute of the round, as Lopez nailed him with a shot to the nose, resulting in blood spilling out once again.

The game Landeros hung tough, making it a real fight entering the eighth and final round.

Lopez’ record is truly deceptive, as he is actually a very clean-punching, skilled fighter, beating Landeros to the punch once again, going on to win a well-deserved 80-71, 79-72 (twice) unanimous decision.
