Darkside Boxing presents "Rumble on the River"

Darkside Boxing

Detroit, Michigan - On Friday, January 10, 2014 at the historic Masonic Temple in Detroit, native World Boxing Council – America’s Champion Lenardo “Pain Server” Tyner and Angel Hernandez will compete for boxing’s ultimate prize, the WBU World Title.

“To have an outstanding young man like Lenardo Tyner fighting for the World Welterweight title means so much for the WBU, “I personally witnessed Lenardo’s professional debut when he was under the tutelage of the late Emanuel Steward, I know how hard he has worked to get to the level he is at today." Says President of the World Boxing Union, Don ‘Moose’ Lewis.

Tyner won the USNBC National title with a sensational first round stoppage of Charles Hatley in August 2012. Tyner comes into the fight with a wealth of Championship experience under his belt, having previously secured the USA Mid American Light Welterweight, USA Texas State and USBO Welterweight titles, as well as challenging for USBA, NABF and NABA titles on a number of occasions.

With nineteen of his wins coming by way of stoppage, including four TKO victories in his last five outings, Tyner is without doubt the bookies favorite, however don’t go writing his opponent, Gary, Indiana’s Angel Hernandez, off just yet.

Hernandez may be deemed to be the underdog, having had only two championship bouts during his twenty nine-fight career, but like Tyner, Hernandez also has a fearsome knockout reputation, having stopped thirteen of his opponents inside the distance. In his last three fights Hernandez scored a third round knockout victory over Ahmad Cheikho, a close split decision loss, against Purnell Gates for the USBO Light Middleweight title and a sensational first round stoppage win over Starr Johnson.

Another factor is Tyner and Hernandez are both from Detroit, so without doubt they will have their Detroit fans truly behind them in his quest for the World crown.

The WBU is partnering with Darkside Productions to promote this highly anticipated event. “It is amazing what CEO Nasser Beydoun and the Darkside team have done in such a short time to revitalize boxing in Detroit, seeing the future champions on the undercard is definitely going to add to this special night.” Says Lewis.

Co-headlining the card are some of Detroit’s best up and coming boxers including Dwayne “The Galditor”, Williams and Ronnie Austion as they defend their records against some of the most talented boxers in Detroit and Canada.

“Darkside Boxing has six events scheduled in Detroit for 2014, Our team is excited in putting together this nationally televised title match at Joe Lewis Arena, December 2014, We are proud to have Quicken Loans as our major Sponsor, and look forward to bringing boxing back to the City of Detroit. The support from the community has been overwhelming” Says CEO, Darkside Boxing Promotions, Nasser Beydoun.

Doors Open 6:00PM, Friday, January 10, 2014, Masonic Temple Weigh – in Detroit, MI Thursday, January 9, 2014 at 5:00 p.m. at the Shotz Sports Bar & Grill, Greektown Casino.
