Terence "Bud" Crawford won the battle of the unbeaten fighters Saturday night when he stopped Cuban boxer Yuriorkis Gamboa in the ninth round to retain his WBO lightweight title at the Century Link Center in Omaha, Nebraska,USA.

Crawford staggered Gamboa with a left hand before knocking him down with the same hand early in the ninth round. The end came after 2,53 when Crawford detonated a huge right hand prompting referee Gino Rodriguez to jump in and call off the fight .

"I hurt him plenty of times," Crawford said in the post fight interview, "so when I hurt him the last time, I was looking to finish(him). I imagined everybody screaming, supporting me.It was everything I thought it was going to be."

The 26-year-old Crawford,24-0-(17 ),who was fighting in front of his hometown crowd, was making the first defence of the title he won from Scotland’s Ricky Burns back in March .

Gamboa, a former Olympic champion, lost for the first time and drops to 23-1-(16).

Although Gamboa boasted a significant physical advantage in reach, Crawford looked pretty much in control and knocked Gamboa down in the fifth by virtue of a left hook to the side of the head.

However, Crawford did not have everything his own way as Gamboa landed a series of heavy punches shots in the third, that got Crawford’s attention .

In the co-main event, WBO No. 1 middleweight Matt Korobov,24-0,scored a unanimous decision win over Jose Uzcatequi for WBO intercontinental title.

Korobov knocked Uzcatequi down twice in the fifth round and again with a body blow in the ninth.
