Chris John announces Retirement

Indonesian boxing star Chris John has decided to call it time on his long career only weeks after suffering his first professional loss. John, 48-1-3, 22 KOs, surrendered his WBA Super Featherweight crown earlier this month against Simpiwe Vetyeka, after being pulled out following the 6th round.

The 34 year old John will be fondly remembered as a skillful and tricky customer whose standout win was a points victory in his home country over Juan Manuel Marquez in 2006.

John defended his 130lb title 18 times following a long reign at Feather.

Talking at a press conference to announce his retirement he said:

“In sport, there’s a time when we win and a time we lose. We can’t win forever and I’ve been giving my best during my career. I have defended my title for a long time. Now I will retire and hang up my gloves." he

He continued “I will spend my time with my family, raising my two daughters. The most important job that I want for my entire life is being a father to my children.”
