Mexican boxer Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. scored a unanimous 12 round points win over American Bryan Vera in a super middleweight rematch at the Alamodome,in San Antonio, Texas on Saturday night and went some way to restoring his reputation following his controversial win last time.

Chavez, 48-1-1, made no mistake this time in securing the 117-110, 117-110 and 114-113 decision on the judges cards.

"It was a better fight this time," said a delighted Chavez. "I won clearly. I threw a lot more punches. For sure I proved I’m a better fighter than Vera."

Last September Chavez Jr struggled to out-point Vera after failing to make the contracted weight

This time, though, Chavez consistently scored points with the right hand while Vera (23-8) was on the ropes in the third round. Vera looked strong in the first and second rounds but Chavez rounded off an impressive performance with a cracking straight right in the 10th round.

Vera complained he hurt his left hand in the early rounds but has no complaints with the loss. "You can see it’s(hand) swollen, but I’m not making no excuses," Vera said. "(I was) just being lazy and the fight got away from me. I just got hit too much."

Top Rank Promoter Bob Arum said he is now looking to set up a title fight against either Canadian Jean Pascal or the big punching Gennady Golovkin.
