Matthew Macklin is shooting for WBC middleweight title currently held by Gennady Golovkin on June 29 in Las Vegas. The fight will take place in the MGM Grand Casino. Currently Macklin is enjoying popularity for taking the WBC Middleweight Champion Sergio Martinez through 11 rounds before losing in the 12th. Although Martinez is a tough fighter, Golovkin is younger and probably more skilful, so it will be even tougher for Macklin to prove himself this time.
Looking at the current state of the betting odds, a win for Gennady Golovkin is priced at around 1/7 on, while a Matthew Macklin win is priced at around 5/1. Odds on a drawn fight are 40/1. With odds of 1/7, even though a win seems highly likely, you need to place a very large bet in order to make any useful money. Of course this is boxing, and when the odds are very short the stakes can be very high. For most people who are not laundering money, betting at those odds makes little sense. If you have a little cash you don’t mind risking at least a bet on Macklin gives you a chance of making a decent return. Alternatively use it for a bet on the roulette wheel.
