Ask Gerry Cooney – October 21, 2015

Compiled by Allan Scotto

Hey, fans! Welcome to “Ask Gerry Cooney,” where you get to ask former heavyweight contender “Gentleman” Gerry Cooney any boxing-related question you’d like. Your questions for Gerry’s review will be featured at every week.

Each week, Gerry will answer as many of your questions as he can on the Sirius XM radio show “Friday Night at The Fights,” which Gerry co-hosts with Randy “The Commish” Gordon, former Chairman of the New York State Athletic Commission.

The show airs every Friday on Sirius / XM Rush Zone Channel 93 from 6-8 p.m., Eastern Standard Time.

Please submit your questions to:

Our first question comes from Carlos J. who asks:

Gerry, I was a big fan of The Contender series and I’ve watched the careers of Sergio Mora, Peter Manfredo, K-9 Bundrage and some of the other fighters featured on the show. It seems to me that they were only able to go so far and then failed. Is it because they were inferior to elite fighters?

Our next question comes from Jason F. who asks:

Gerry, I was really surprised to see Devon Alexander lose to Aron Martinez. I thought for sure he would have no problem with Martinez. So, in your opinion, based on what you saw, is Alexander finished?

And Gerry answered the following questions on last week’s show.

Our first question came from George B. who asked:

Gerry, how do you see the upcoming bout between Peter Quillin and Daniel Jacobs? Do you think Jacobs will make a fight out of it?

Gerry sees this as a good back and forth match until Quillin eventually takes control and wins by decision.

Our next question came from Pat T. who asked:

Gerry, OK, so Broner beat Allakhverdiev KO in the 12th. What did you think of his performance and what do you see next for him?

Gerry thought that Broner looked good and he also feels that Broner should stay at 140lbs and that he is not strong enough to compete at Welterweight.
