Ask Gerry Cooney – October 1st, 2015

Compiled by Allan Scotto

Hey, fans! Welcome to “Ask Gerry Cooney,” where you get to ask former heavyweight contender “Gentleman” Gerry Cooney any boxing-related question you’d like. Your questions for Gerry’s review will be featured at every week.

Each week, Gerry will answer as many of your questions as he can on the Sirius XM radio show “Friday Night at The Fights,” which Gerry co-hosts with Randy “The Commish” Gordon, former Chairman of the New York State Athletic Commission.

The show airs every Friday on Sirius / XM Rush Zone Channel 93 from 6-8 p.m., Eastern Standard Time.

Please submit your questions to:

Our first question comes from Kenny D. who asks:

Gerry, this week Adrienne Broner fights Khabib Allakhverdiev for the WBA World Super Lightweight title. This is a comeback fight for Broner. I don’t know a lot about Allakhverdiev, so how do you think Broner will do and what happens if he loses?

Our next question comes from Timmy T. who asks:

Gerry, it looks like Amir Khan may be getting a shot at Manny Pacquiao, who will definitely test Khan’s suspect chin. How do you see this one?

And Gerry answered the following questions on last week’s show.

Our first question came from Jimmy G. who asked:

Gerry, one of the upcoming fights is Gennady Golovkin against David Lemieux. I don’t see Lemieux having much of a chance against GGG. How do you see this one going?

Gerry thinks this would be a back and forth affair but that Golovkin would eventually wear down Lemieux and take him out in the later rounds.

Our next question came from Paul K. who asked:

Gerry, lots of hoop-di-la going on between Vladimir Klitscho and Tyson Fury. So much so that Fury has stated that he will never box again if he doesn’t beat Vladimir. So, do you think Fury has a shot and do you think he’ll quit if he loses?

Gerry pointed out that this is a moot point right now as Klitscho injured his leg and the fight is postponed.
