Ask Gerry Cooney – October 11th, 2015

Compiled by Allan Scotto

Hey, fans! Welcome to “Ask Gerry Cooney,” where you get to ask former heavyweight contender “Gentleman” Gerry Cooney any boxing-related question you’d like. Your questions for Gerry’s review will be featured at every week.

Each week, Gerry will answer as many of your questions as he can on the Sirius XM radio show “Friday Night at The Fights,” which Gerry co-hosts with Randy “The Commish” Gordon, former Chairman of the New York State Athletic Commission.

The show airs every Friday on Sirius / XM Rush Zone Channel 93 from 6-8 p.m., Eastern Standard Time.

Please submit your questions to:

Our first question comes from George B. who asks:

Gerry, how do you see the upcoming bout between Peter Quillin and Daniel Jacobs? Do you think Jacobs will make a fight out of it?

Our next question comes from Pat T. who asks:

Gerry, OK, so Broner beat Allakhverdiev KO in the 12th. What did you think of his performance and what do you see next for him?

And Gerry answered the following questions on last week’s show.

Our first question came from Kenny D. who asked:

Gerry, this week Adrienne Broner fights Khabib Allakhverdiev for the WBA World Super Lightweight title. This is a comeback fight for Broner. I don’t know a lot about Allakhverdiev, so how do you think Broner will do and what happens if he loses?

Gerry felt that this was a “must win” fight for Broner and stated that if Broner were to lose, he’d be finished.

Our next question came from Timmy T. who asked:

Gerry, it looks like Amir Khan may be getting a shot at Manny Pacquiao, who will definitely test Khan’s suspect chin. How do you see this one?

Gerry thinks this is actually a very good match-up and also thinks that Khan may surprise a lot of people in this fight.
