Ask Gerry Cooney – Oct. 4, 2013

Compiled by Allan Scotto

Hey, fans! Welcome to “Ask Gerry Cooney,” where you get to ask former heavyweight contender “Gentleman” Gerry Cooney any boxing-related question you’d like. Your questions for Gerry’s review will be featured at every Thursday morning (or in this case, Friday morning).

Each week, Gerry will answer as many of your questions as he can on the Sirius XM radio show “Friday Night at The Fights,” a show Gerry co-hosts with Randy “The Commish” Gordon, former Chairman of the New York State Athletic Commission.
The show airs every Friday on Sirius channel 92 and XM channel 208 from 6 – 8 p.m., Eastern Standard Time.
Please submit your questions to:
Our first question comes from Louie R., who asks:
Gerry, I hear that Floyd Mayweather will be fighting Amir Khan in May. I don’t think Khan stands a chance against him. How do you see that one going?
Our next question comes from Paul K., who asks:
Gerry, what drew you to boxing as the sport you chose to compete in?
Gerry answered the following questions on last week’s show:
Our first question came from Alex T., who asked:
Hi Gerry, I’ve always wondered about something and thought you might know the answer. Why isn’t there a standard size for all boxing rings?
Gerry was not quite sure why this was the case and would look into it.
Our next question came from Ray G., who asked:
Gerry, how accurate do you think CompuBox is and if it really is accurate, shouldn’t it be used as a tool in judging?
Gerry feels CompuBox is reasonably accurate and although he was not convinced it should be used in scoring a bout, he does think that something desperately needs to be done to improve judging overall.
