Each week, Gerry will answer as many of your questions as he can on the SiriusXM radio show, “Friday Night at The Fights,” a show that Gerry co-hosts with Randy “The Commish” Gordon, the former Chairman of the New York State Athletic Commission.
The show airs every Friday on Sirius channel 92 and XM channel 208 from 6 – 8 p.m., Eastern Standard Time.
[Editor’s note: Listeners, please take note. “Friday Night at the Fights” was previously broadcast on Sirius channel 94.]
Our first question this week comes from Richie S., who asks:
Gerry, right after Danny Garcia’s rematch victory over Erik Morales, people started talking about Garcia facing Zab Judah. Do you like this matchup?
Our next question comes from Robert M., who asks:
Gerry, reports are flying around the Internet claiming that we’ve lost Manny Steward and just as many are saying that he hasn’t passed but is very sick and hospitalized. Do you know Manny and if so, can you share your feelings? [Editor’s note: Sadly, it was confirmed yesterday that Hall of Fame trainer Emanuel Steward indeed passed away at the age of 68. Manny will be truly missed by all. The Maxboxing family sends its heartfelt condolences to the Steward family.]
Gerry answered the following questions on last week’s show:
Our first question came from Danny G., who asked:
Gerry, Bob Arum said that after the Manny Pacquiao/Juan Manuel Marquez fight, Brandon Rios will more than likely face “Pac-Man” next. How do you see that fight going and, also, do you think Rios is the guy who could bull his way through Floyd Mayweather’s defense and take him out?
Gerry feels that Pacquiao vs. Rios would be a good fight but one Rios would not win. Gerry also feels Rios would have no chance against Mayweather due to Floyd’s far superior boxing skills.
Our next question came from Victor G., who asked:
Gerry, our Olympic boxing team seemed to be a disaster at the games. What do you think needs to be done to make us the dominant amateur force we once were?
Gerry feels the Olympic team needs to spend more time together as a team in training camp. Additionally, Gerry feels that something definitely needs to be done about amateur Olympic scoring.
