Ask Gerry Cooney – November 7th, 2015

Compiled by Allan Scotto

Hey, fans! Welcome to “Ask Gerry Cooney,” where you get to ask former heavyweight contender “Gentleman” Gerry Cooney any boxing-related question you’d like. Your questions for Gerry’s review will be featured at every week.

Each week, Gerry will answer as many of your questions as he can on the Sirius XM radio show “Friday Night at The Fights,” which Gerry co-hosts with Randy “The Commish” Gordon, former Chairman of the New York State Athletic Commission.

The show airs every Friday on Sirius / XM Rush Zone Channel 93 from 6-8 p.m., Eastern Standard Time.

Please submit your questions to:

Our first question comes from Patrick K. who asks:

Gerry, the latest news is that Andre Ward pulled out of his fight with Alexander Brand because of swelling on his right knee. My question is, do you buy it or is it just Ward being Ward again?

Our next question comes from Steve R. who asks:

Gerry, I’ve been seeing a lot of talk about Manny Pacquiao fighting Amir Khan. Do you think they will fight and if so, who do you think will win this fight, at this stage of their careers?

And Gerry answered the following questions on last week’s show.

Our first question came from Timmy T. who asked:

Gerry, Tyson Fury recently said that he would knock out Vladimir Klitschko and that the knockout would be short and very violent. Do you think Fury has what it takes to do that to a superior fighter like Vladimir?

Gerry does not think that Tyson Fury is going to knock out Vladimir Klitscho. In fact, he thinks that Fury will be the one who ends up counting ring lights!

Our next question came from Mike M. who asked:

Gerry, I read that Andre Ward’s next opponent will be Alexander Brand, who was knocked out by Badou Jack. After such a long layoff, shouldn’t Ward be looking to mix it up with fighters a bit higher on the food chain?

Gerry agrees that Ward should be looking to step it up a bit in terms of competition or risk the chance of becoming irrelevant.
