Ask Gerry Cooney – Nov. 21, 2013

Compiled by Allan Scotto

Hey, fans! Welcome to “Ask Gerry Cooney,” where you get to ask former heavyweight contender “Gentleman” Gerry Cooney any boxing-related question you’d like. Your questions for Gerry’s review will be featured at every Thursday morning.
Each week, Gerry will answer as many of your questions as he can on the Sirius XM radio show “Friday Night at The Fights,” a show Gerry co-hosts with Randy “The Commish” Gordon, former Chairman of the New York State Athletic Commission.

The show airs every Friday on Sirius channel 92 and XM channel 208 from 6 – 8 p.m., Eastern Standard Time.
Please submit your questions to:
Our first question comes from Bernie Campbell, who asks:
Gerry, with all the cancelations in recent fights, it made me wonder; does the person canceling the fight have to forfeit money? If so, did that happen when Mikkel Kessler canceled with Carl Froch to duck Robert Stieglitz!
Our next question comes from David H., who asks:
Gerry, there is a video circulating on Facebook of a confrontation between the Manny Pacquiao camp and the Brandon Rios camp during an ESPN interview. In the melee that follows, one of the people from the Rios camp began mocking Freddy Roach’s speech by going uh, uh, uh, spit it out Freddy!  This was an obvious taunt based on Roach’s illness (Parkinson’s Disease) and one I found despicable. Is such behavior accepted behind the scenes in boxing and what do you think of it?
Gerry answered the following questions last week.
Our first question came from Steve S., who asked:
Gerry, it looks like Floyd Mayweather vs. Amir Khan is set for May. Do you think Khan is really a challenge to Mayweather?
Gerry does not feel Khan is much of a challenge for Mayweather and sees the fight as an easy win for Floyd.
Our next question came from Anthony S., who asked:
Gerry, do you think Gennady Golovkin could beat Floyd Mayweather?
Gerry answered plain and simple…yes.
