Ask Gerry Cooney- Dec. 7, 2012

Compiled by Allan Scotto

Hey, fans! Welcome to “Ask Gerry Cooney,” where you get to ask former heavyweight contender “Gentleman” Gerry Cooney any boxing-related question you’d like. Your questions for Gerry’s review will be featured at Maxboxing.com every Thursday morning.

Each week, Gerry will answer as many of your questions as he can on the SiriusXM radio show, “Friday Night at The Fights,” a show that Gerry co-hosts with Randy “The Commish” Gordon, the former Chairman of the New York State Athletic Commission.

The show airs every Friday on Sirius channel 92 and XM channel 208 from 6 – 8 p.m., Eastern Standard Time.

Please submit your questions to askgerrycooney@aol.com.

Our first question comes from Jimmy E. who asks:

Hey, Gerry, I saw you sitting ringside at Trout-Cotto. Did you see it mostly for Trout or did you have it closer?

Our next question comes from Miguel R., who asks:

Gerry, do you think there is any fighter out there today that could beat Floyd Mayweather Jr.?

Gerry answered the following questions on last week’s show:

Our first question came from Anthony S., who asked:

Gerry, I read that Ricky Hatton has retired following his loss to Vyacheslav Senchenko. I actually thought that he was doing rather well until he was stopped by a liver shot. That punch has stopped a lot of great fighters also, so do you think Hatton is making the right decision?

Gerry felt Hatton has nothing left to prove and that he should continue to move forward as a trainer.

Our next question came from Warren M., who asked:

Hi Gerry, like many others, I was a little surprised at the way Robert Guerrero beat up Andre Berto on Saturday night. I’ve been reading a lot of posts complaining about the referee [Dr. Lou Moret]. I agree Guerrero made it a trench war but I thought Berto did his share of holding and roughing it up on the inside as well. Do you agree?

Gerry thought it was a great fight, fought mostly on the inside - and it gets rough in there.
