Each week, Gerry will answer as many of your questions as he can on the SiriusXM radio show, “Friday Night at The Fights,” a show that Gerry co-hosts with Randy “The Commish” Gordon, the former Chairman of the New York State Athletic Commission.
The show airs every Friday on Sirius channel 92 and XM channel 208 from 6 – 8 p.m., Eastern Standard Time.
Our first question comes from Bernard Campbell, who asks:
Gerry, two weeks ago in the fight between Bryant Jennings and Bowie Tupou, Tupou knocked Jennings to the canvas in the third round. In what I believe was a politically motivated move, the ref [Blair Talmadge] ruled it a slip and maybe that influenced the way each fighter fought after that. Even though Jennings ended up knocking Tupou out in the fifth round, shouldn’t the ref be negatively sanctioned for blowing the call?
Our next question comes from Teddy B. who asks:
Gerry, it seems like Roy Jones Jr. is going to be the new color commentator for HBO. What do you think of him as a commentator?
Gerry answered the following questions on last week’s show:
Our first question came from Bobby L., who asked:
Gerry, I am friggin’ furious! We all saw the devastating knockout that Manny Pacquiao endured at the hands of Juan Manuel Marquez last Saturday night, and I’m sure I’m not alone when I say there were some very anxious moments for me as Manny lay on his face not moving. But, it seems that casual fans have taken to Photoshopping that picture into other scenes trying to be funny. Even Ishe Smith, a so-called professional fighter has done it continually. I find this in extremely poor taste and I find it very disrespectful to a great champion. Am I wrong?
Both Gerry and Randy agreed that it is in very poor taste to mock a fighter for getting knocked out, be it Pacquiao or anyone else.
Our next question came from Louis V., who asked:
Hey, Champ, after Saturday’s victory over Manny Pacquiao, should Marquez get another shot at Mayweather and if he does, who do you think wins this time?
Gerry feels Marquez would get easily outboxed by Mayweather again.
