Ask Gerry Cooney – Dec. 19, 2013

Compiled by Allan Scotto

Hey, fans! Welcome to “Ask Gerry Cooney,” where you get to ask former heavyweight contender “Gentleman” Gerry Cooney any boxing-related question you’d like. Your questions for Gerry’s review will be featured at every Thursday morning.

Each week, Gerry will answer as many of your questions as he can on the Sirius XM radio show “Friday Night at The Fights,” a show Gerry co-hosts with Randy “The Commish” Gordon, former Chairman of the New York State Athletic Commission.
The show airs every Friday on Sirius channel 92 and XM channel 208 from 6 - 8 p.m., Eastern Standard Time.
Please submit your questions to:
Our first question comes from Victor O., who asks:
Gerry, now that Marcos Maidana made short work out of Adrien Broner, there is a lot of talk that Floyd Mayweather should face Maidana instead of Amir Khan. Do you agree?
Our next question comes from Tony S., who asks:
Gerry, do fighters in different weight classes wear gloves of different weights and if so, why?
Gerry answered the following questions last week:
Our first question came from Henry G., who asked:
Gerry, what happened to Zab Judah? He looked rather lackluster to me against Paul Malignaggi and why do you think it is that he loses most of his big fights?
Gerry thought Zab looked flat and Paulie Malignaggi fought a perfect fight.
Our next question came from Tony S., who asked:
Gerry, when discussing various fighters, I’ve occasionally heard you say, “He needs to learn to sit down on his punches.” What exactly does that mean?
Gerry explained that it refers to planting your feet in the proper position and getting your entire body into the punch.
