Ask Gerry Cooney – August 23, 2014

Compiled by Allan Scotto

Hey, fans! Welcome to “Ask Gerry Cooney,” where you get to ask former heavyweight contender “Gentleman” Gerry Cooney any boxing-related question you’d like. Your questions for Gerry’s review will be featured at every week.

Each week, Gerry will answer as many of your questions as he can on the Sirius XM radio show “Friday Night at The Fights,” which Gerry co-hosts with Randy “The Commish” Gordon, former Chairman of the New York State Athletic Commission.

The show airs every Friday on Sirius Sport Zone Channel 92 from 6-8 p.m., Eastern Standard Time.

Please submit your questions to:

Our first question comes from Russ M. who asks:

Gerry, how did you see the Porter / Brook fight? I had Brook winning by a very close decision. Did you agree with the decision the judges handed down.

Our next question comes from Bob D. who asks:

Well we’re a couple of weeks away from Mayweather / Maidana II. I think Mayweather will beat Maidana by a wide margin in the rematch, having learned what Maidana is all about in the first fight. Do you agree?

And Gerry answered the following questions last week:

Our first question came from John F. who asked:

Gerry, I’m curious to know how you think a fight between Floyd Mayweather and Gennady Golovkin would go. Who do you see winning if that fight took place?

Gerry stated that he thinks Golovkin would be too much for Mayweather and that he would hand Floyd his first defeat,

Our next question cams from Tony S. who asked:

Shannon Briggs has been stalking Vladimir Klitscho like Clubber Lang stalked Rocky. Do you think those tactics are going to work to get him the fight he so desperately wants?

Gerry does not approve of what Briggs is doing and he does not think it’s good for the sport of boxing. He also said that he doesn’t think Briggs would stand a chance against Klitscho.
