Each week, Gerry will answer as many of your questions as he can on the SiriusXM radio show, “Friday Night at The Fights,” a show that Gerry co-hosts with Randy “The Commish” Gordon, the former Chairman of the New York State Athletic Commission.
The show airs every Friday on Sirius channel 94 and XM channel 208 from 7 – 9 p.m., Eastern Standard Time.
Our first question this week comes from Sammy V., who asks:
Gerry, pretty soon Chad Dawson will be facing Andre Ward at 168 pounds. I think Ward will prove to be too much for Dawson. What do you think?
Our next question comes from David R., who asks:
Many people are saying that the amateur boxing program in the United States is all but over. Do you think that’s true?
Gerry answered the following questions on the air last Friday.
Our first question came from Huntington Town Councilman Gene Cook, who asked:
Hey Gerry, a big hello from all your friends and fans here in Huntington, Long Island. My question is this: What kind of scoring are they using in the Olympic boxing matches? I can’t make heads or tails out of the way they are scoring these bouts.
Both Gerry and Randy agree that the current scoring system is a ridiculous and near-impossible way to score fights and they also announced that after this Olympics, the current scoring system is being trashed for a new system yet to be determined.
Our next question comes from Bob P., who asks:
Gerry, do you think that 50 Cent’s involvement as a promoter in boxing brings us closer to a Manny Pacquiao vs. Floyd Mayweather showdown?
Gerry feels the fans’ interest has waned regarding this fight and that there are too many good fighters coming up for anyone to really care all that much about this match-up anymore.
