Ask Gerry Cooney - March 8, 2014

Compiled by Allan Scotto

Hey, fans! Welcome to “Ask Gerry Cooney,” where you get to ask former heavyweight contender “Gentleman” Gerry Cooney any boxing-related question you’d like. Your questions for Gerry’s review will be featured at every Thursday morning (or in this case, Saturday morning!).

Each week, Gerry will answer as many of your questions as he can on the Sirius/XM Sports Zone radio show “Friday Night at The Fights,” a show Gerry co-hosts with Randy “The Commish” Gordon, former Chairman of the New York State Athletic Commission.
The show airs every Friday on Sirius Sports Zone Channel 92 from 6 - 8 p.m., Eastern Standard Time.
Please submit your questions to:
Our first question comes from Bob B., who asks:
Hey, Gerry, love listening to you and Randy every Friday and I’d like to know who you like in Sergio Martinez-Miguel Cotto?
Our next question comes from Tommy J., who asks:
Gerry, it looks like the year is shaping up to be another great one for boxing. I’d like to know; do you think Alfredo Angulo has a good shot at handing Saul Alvarez his second loss?
Gerry answered the following questions on last week’s show:
Our first question came from Paul J., who asked:
Gerry, this week is the rematch between Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. and Bryan Vera. I thought Vera was robbed in their first fight. Do you agree and how do you see the rematch going?
Gerry felt that Vera won their first encounter and didn’t pick a winner in the rematch but thought it would be a good scrap.
Our next question came from Lou M., who asked:
Gerry, after suffering his third loss via second round KO at the hands of Luis Collazo, is Victor Ortiz finished in your opinion as an elite fighter?
Gerry reminded us of the horrible conditions that Ortiz faced as a boy and feels that perhaps Victor just doesn’t really want to fight anymore.
