Ask Gerry Cooney - June 5, 2014

Compiled by Allan Scotto

Hey, fans! Welcome to “Ask Gerry Cooney,” where you get to ask former heavyweight contender “Gentleman” Gerry Cooney any boxing-related question you’d like. Your questions for Gerry’s review will be featured at every week.

Each week, Gerry will answer as many of your questions as he can on the Sirius XM radio show “Friday Night at The Fights,” which Gerry co-hosts with Randy “The Commish” Gordon, former Chairman of the New York State Athletic Commission.
The show airs every Friday on Sirius Sport Zone Channel 92 from 6-8 p.m., Eastern Standard Time.
Please submit your questions to:
Our first question comes from Bobby L., who asks:
Gerry, after [former CEO] Richard Schaefer bailed on Golden Boy Promotions, Floyd Mayweather and Bernard Hopkins both announced they are leaving the company. Two questions: Can Oscar De La Hoya run it himself with the same level of success and do you think Schaefer will join Al Haymon to form a powerhouse promotion company and give Top Rank Promotions and Golden Boy a run for their money?
[Editor’s note: Despite the question for Gerry, Hopkins leaving Golden Boy is unsubstantiated. Although he has shown concern about the professional dissolution, Hopkins has not made any moves in regard to leaving Golden Boy Promotions.]
Our next question comes from Chris B., who asks:
Gerry, who do you like in the match-up between Miguel Cotto and Sergio Martinez?
