Ask Gerry Cooney - Feb. 13, 2014

Compiled by Allan Scotto

Hey, fans! Welcome to “Ask Gerry Cooney,” where you get to ask former heavyweight contender “Gentleman” Gerry Cooney any boxing-related question you’d like. Your questions for Gerry’s review will be featured at every Thursday morning.

Each week, Gerry will answer as many of your questions as he can on the Sirius XM radio show “Friday Night at The Fights,” a show Gerry co-hosts with Randy “The Commish” Gordon, former Chairman of the New York State Athletic Commission.
The show airs every Friday on Sirius channel 92 and XM channel 208 from 6 - 8 p.m., Eastern Standard Time.
Please submit your questions to:
Our first question comes from George B., who asks:
Gerry, this Friday, Chris Algieri is fighting Emmanuel Taylor at the Paramount Theater in Huntington, NY. Taylor is being treated as the underdog “opponent” but Taylor has 12 KOs to his 17 wins while Algieri has eight KOs to his 18 wins. It seems to me that Taylor is the heavier puncher. How do you see it?
Our next question comes from Tony S., who asks:
Gerry, who do you think would win in a match-up between Gennady Golovkin and Floyd Mayweather? I think “Triple G” would take him.
Gerry answered the following questions last week:
Our first question came from Bernie Campbell, who asked:
Gerry, why does Oliver McCall beat a dead horse by continuing to box professionally?
Gerry stated that the reason many fighters continue fighting past their time is simply for money.
Our next question came from Mike M., who asked:
Gerry, what do you think of George Zimmerman boxing DMX and do you think this will turn into a huge event because of Zimmerman’s notoriety?
Gerry did not feel the fight should happen and during the broadcast, DMX texted the studio and said there was no way he would participate.
