Ask Gerry Cooney - April 18, 2014

Compiled by Allan Scotto

Hey, fans! Welcome to “Ask Gerry Cooney,” where you get to ask former heavyweight contender “Gentleman” Gerry Cooney any boxing-related question you’d like. Your questions for Gerry’s review will be featured at every Thursday morning (or in this case, Friday!).

Each week, Gerry will answer as many of your questions as he can on the Sirius XM radio show “Friday Night at The Fights,” a show Gerry co-hosts with Randy “The Commish” Gordon, former Chairman of the New York State Athletic Commission.
The show airs every Friday on Sirius Sport Zone Channel 92 from 6-8 p.m., Eastern Standard Time.
Please submit your questions to:
Our first question comes from Tony T., who asks:
Gerry, I looked at the press conference pics of Chris Algieri and Ruslan Provodnikov and Algieri looks to me to be a much bigger man. I think if Algieri boxes and throws his normal very high punch output, he’s got a good shot at beating Provodnikov. What do you think?
Our next question comes from Ricky M., who asks:
Gerry, on May 3rd, Floyd Mayweather takes on Marcos Maidana. Maidana certainly made short work of Adrien Broner, so how do you think he’ll do against Mayweather?
Gerry answered the following questions on last week’s show:
Our first question came from Tony R. who asked:
Gerry, if you had to pick a heavyweight that you think stands a chance against either of the Klitschko brothers, who would it be?
Gerry feels Deontay Wilder is showing great promise and might become the heavyweight who could give the Klitschkos a run for their money.
Our next question comes from Charley M., who asks:
Gerry, in a fight where one man is much taller than his opponent, who do you think has the advantage, the taller man or the shorter man?
Gerry thinks what really matters is which opponent has the biggest heart.
