The Barbershop- Aug. 9, 2011

Happy Tuesday, fans!
Welcome to this week’s edition of “The Barbershop,” a column designed to give you a forum to speak your mind about our question(s) of the week or any boxing related issue that you would like to comment on. We welcome and appreciate your participation, so take a minute, scroll down and leave your comment below.

Now on to today’s question:
This past week on Maxboxing, Gabe Montoya penned an excellent article on performance enhancing drugs and their use in boxing. The article featured Dr. Margaret Goodman, who is- and always has been- one of the strongest proponents for fighter safety.
It is almost mindboggling to think of how much potential PED use is out there and boxing commissions do not seem in any hurry to start all the testing necessary to curtail the use of PEDs, citing cost as their most daunting obstacle.
Still, there are others who feel that it is an effort in futility to even try to stem PED usage and that it would be better to just legalize it and forget the issue altogether.
So fans, here’s the question: when it comes to the use of PEDs in boxing, do you see it as a major issue or do you not care?
You pay the bills, fans, so what do YOU think?
Don’t forget, fans; you can join the fun on Friday nights as I join Randy Gordon and Gerry Cooney on their “Friday Night at the Fights” satellite radio show on Sirius channel 92 and XM channel 207.
We’ll be discussing these items and whatever else is on your mind in the sport of boxing.
The show runs from 7 PM to 9 PM EST and you can call in and let us know what you think by dialing 1-866-522-2846.
We look forward to hearing from you!
