In a very lively outdoor setting, super featherweight Eloy Perez, 22-0-2 (6), looked like a million dollars by stopping his foe, Dominican Daniel “Azuquita” Jimenez, 20-4-1 (12), Saturday night at the Salinas Sports Complex in Salinas, California, on Telefutura’s “Solo Boxeo” main event.

Perez got off to a fast start by sending Jimenez to the canvas with a short, right cross during an exchange. Still wobbly, Jimenez was sent bouncing off the ropes from another right hand, then got nailed with a left and another right hand and dropped at the end of the first round.

Looking for the finish, Perez nailed Jimenez with a spectacular left hook, which left his opponent dangling off the second rope with half his body hanging out of the ring. Referee Edward Collantes immediately stopped the bout at 56 seconds into the second frame.

In other results, super middleweight Paul Mendez, 6-2 (2), dropped a split decision to James Parison, 15-1 (4), with scores of 59-55 and 58-56 for Parison and 58-56 in favor of Mendez.

Cruiserweight Anthony Johnson, 5-0 (1), outpointed Joe Gumina, 2-1 (2), in a four-round cruiserweight bout with scores of 39-37 (twice) and 38-38.

Super middleweight Rudy Puga, 1-0 (1), beat up on a game but much smaller Raul Talamontes, 0-5, through four rounds. Talamontes ended up bloodied, with the referee Edward Collantes stopping the bout at 1:27 into the final round.

Welterweight Jonathan Chicas, 3-0 (2), hammered Davis Kamara, 4-3, with a flurry of unanswered shots in the third round. Referee Marcos Rosales halted the fight with 14 seconds remaining in the round.
