Atlantic City will play host tonight to a great card featuring some fine young talent continuing to make strides toward their futures. The card will also be headlined by the first title defense of Maurice “Sugar Moe” Harris, 24-15-2 (10), as takes on Derric Rossy, 25-4 (14).
Harris has had an up-and-down career, to say the least, and is trying to rebound from his last fight, suffering a loss to Tony Thompson in an IBF title eliminator on ESPN2.
Harris, 35, is well aware that although he may be fighting in a division that is on the downside in terms of quality opposition, Rossy is going to be a game challenger to his crown. Rossy holds a victory over the likes of Ray Mercer and Carl David Drummond but is also coming off of a loss at the hands of Eddie Chambers. However, despite the two fighters coming off losses, the fight has major importance to both fighters’ careers.
A victory tonight for Rossy could equal instantly becoming a player in the heavyweight division by capturing the USBA crown. For Harris, this could be the victory he needs against a tough challenger in order to move his career on a steady path toward a serious run for a world championship.
Heading the undercard will be undefeated Lavarn “Baby Bowe” Harvell takingon Hamid Abdul Mateen in a four-round light heavyweight bout.Harvell, Atlantic City, has a record of 7-0 with three wins coming byknockout.
