So Long, My Friend
Thu 12-Aug-2010
Allan Scotto: Sometimes, you read something and it’s so shocking that it just doesn’t register. Maybe it is too much for your mind to grab a hold of or maybe it’s too sad, so you have to look again, just to make sure that you saw it right. So Long, My Friend
Keep Screamin’!
Sun 2-May-2010
Allan Scotto: As Jed Clampett of “The Beverly Hillbillies” used to exclaim, “Wheeeeeee, doggy!” Man, oh man! Take a stick and poke a fan of Floyd Mayweather Jr. or Roy Jones Jr. and Hellz-a-Poppin’! Geez! Keep Screamin’!
So…Does Joshua Clottey Win?
Sat 13-Mar-2010
By Allan Scotto (Photo © Chris Farina / Top Rank): Manny Pacquiao is such a nice guy that even thinking he might lose makes you feel like you’ve somehow betrayed a friend. How does one look at that smiling face singing love songs on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” and picture him losing? Well, it ain’t easy, but come Saturday night, he just might. Fighting at the Garden, known as “The Mecca of Boxing,” was a “dream come true” according to Algieri, who initially seemed to be caught up in the fact that he was in the big show. Normally quick-footed, Algieri came out flat-footed for the first Algieri Comes to Mecca (and Makes it 10-0)
“When Opponents Fail Cooperate”
Sat 31-Oct-2009
By Allan Scotto: It is perhaps one of the most exciting things that happens in the sport of boxing. Given little or no chance, a fighter, brought in with the expectation that he will lose, puts forth an unbelievable effort, and shocks the world, not to mention his opponent. “When Opponents Fail Cooperate”
Algieri Coming on Strong
Sat 3-Oct-2009
By Allan Scotto - Long Island native Chris Algieri has improved his record to 9-0 with two impressive victories over Jose L. Guzman and Edward Valdez. Algieri squared off against two time Golden Glove finalist Jose Guzman on July 18th at the Plattdeutsche Restaurant in Franklin Square, Long Island. The fight got off to a slow start with Guzman showing fast feet and a stinging jab. Algieri Coming on Strong
