Jowett reporting from ringside: The third of promoter Joe Hand Sr. & Jr.’s fine pro-am cards added key sponsorship from Parx Casino but took place at the usual venue, South Philly’s 2300 Arena, on 11/25/14. A good crowd nearly filled the venue for matchmaker Will Ruiz’ bouts. Everything went well until the main event, which had a rather abrupt ending. The fans didn’t seem to mind, though. By Derek Bonnett (image by © icheehuahua, MaxBoxing): As most fans, I imagine, I like free boxing. I am not talking about free seats in press row either, but, take it from me, that’s the way to go. No, I am talking about TV viewership. Boxing on ABC, NBC, USA, and ESPN was great an available on your basic cable packages. HBO and Showtime cost a small monthly fee, but might as well be free since I am paying for a larger package including movies and great dramatic series. By Mark G. Butcher in Macao for MaxBoxing (Photo © Chris Farina / Top Rank): Manny Pacquiao might be advised to take holy water between rounds when he faces Chris Algieri at the Cotai Arena on Sunday. By John J. Raspanti: It would be easy to write that Sergey Kovalev’s dominating victory over Bernard Hopkins was perpetuated by Hopkins suddenly getting old during the fight. Easy, but not exactly accurate. First off, Hopkins IS old. He’s two months shy of his fiftieth birthday, but what Kovalev did last Saturday night in Atlantic City, NJ, was something no other fighter in recent memory had been able to accomplish. He made Hopkins fight like an old man... Weekend combinations: Kovalev overwhelms Hopkins, Ali upends Abregu

By John J. Raspanti: Forty years ago, many said the fight between undisputed heavyweight champion of the world George Foreman and former titleholder Muhammad Ali was a mismatch. A few weeks before the bout took place on October 30, 1974, in Kinshasa, Zaire, ABC sports broadcaster Howard Cosell spoke of the match in hushed tones, suggesting Ali was engaging in his "Last Supper". “The time may have come to say goodbye to Muhammad Ali, because very honestly, I don’t think he can beat George F A Second Look: Foreman vs. Ali

By John J. Raspanti (Photo © German Villasenor): The appeal of WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin is obvious. He’s soft-spoken and kind. He never dismisses an opponent.
