Fresh off Kirk Johnson's knockout of Lou Savarese last Saturday, his promoter, Duva Boxing president Dino Duva, has had preliminary discussions with representatives of IBF/WBC heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis and HBO concerning a world championship title fight in June between the two Canadian-based heavyweights.
"We have had several conversations about making this championship fight in June," said Duva. "It would be the single biggest sporting event in Canadian history. I also believe that it is currently the biggest fight out there for Lennox."
Said Johnson: "I want Lennox Lewis, it's plain and simple. My message to him is let's do it for Canada and the world. I respect Lennox for being 'the man' right now, however I am confident I can beat him."
Johnson, who hails from North Preston, Nova Scotia, has a ring record of 34-1-1 (25 KOs). His only loss was a controversial disqualification to then WBA-champion John Ruiz last July in Las Vegas. Lewis, the IBF/WBC champion and generally regarded as the best in the heavyweight division, is 40-2-1 (31 KOs). Stowell
