Welshman Gavin Rees’ reign as WBA junior welterweight champion didn’t last long, as he was stopped in the 12th round of his first title defense at the International Arena in Cardiff, Wales by Ukraine’s Andreas Kotelnik. The end for Rees (27-1, 13 KOs) – who won the title from Souleymane M’baye in July of 2007 - came at 2:34 of the final round. With the win, Kotelnik improves to 29-2-1 with 13 KOs.

At the National Stadium in Dublin, middleweight prospect Matty Macklin (21-2, 16 KOs) scored the biggest win of his pro career, taking a ten round decision win over former world champion Yory Boy Campas (91-12, 73 KOs). Macklin’s winning score was 98-95.
