Former ‘Contender’ cast member Brian Vera put a huge dent in the title aspirations of highly touted Andy Lee Friday night at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut, rising from a first round knockdown to stop the Ireland native at 2:17 of the seventh round.

Lee started strong, putting Vera on the deck in the first round and he found a home for his left hand all night. The game Texan kept moving forward though, and in the seventh round he had Lee – who was bleeding from a cut over his right eye - in serious trouble for much of the round. But just when Lee seemed to get his bearings back somewhat, referee Tony Chiarantano halted the bout, even though the Emanuel Steward-trained fighter had just thrown a punch and was moving forward.

With the win, Vera improves to 16-1 with 10 KOs; Lee falls to 15-1 with 12 KOs.

In undercard action, Aaron Pryor Jr. outpointed Alphonso Williams over eight rounds, and Matt Remillard scored a four round decision win over Jesus Salvador Perez.
