Jones-Ruiz Done According to Stone

After what seems like years of speculation, it seems Roy Jones has finally decided to sign his name on the dotted line to face WBA heavyweight titlist John Ruiz. About two week ago, Jones had signed what was in effect, a contract to sign a contract, if his contractual demands were met.

To the surprise of many, including Jones himself, Ruiz and his camp gave into every single one of his concessions. After a week or so of hesitation, it looks like Jones has taken the bold leap of taking on a full-fledged heavyweight.

"I heard it, I just heard it right now," said Norman Stone, the co-manager of Ruiz, confirming the news. "That's it, it's a done deal from what I understand. We signed ours, he signed his letter of intent, that's a binding contract. It's a done deal, March 1st at the Thomas and Mack Arena (in Las Vegas)."

So how did the 'Quiet Man' react to what will be the most high profile and lucrative fight of his career?

"I just talked to him," said Stone. "He's excited, he said, 'Let it go, but I'll believe it when the bell rings.'"

But Stone, the fiery and outspoken manager, who also trains his man, is acting like it's a done deal. He says that he will be going to training on Tuesday either in Vero Beach or Fort Myers, Florida.

So just how do you prepare for Jones if you're a heavyweight. And what type of sparring partners will be used?

"I'm gonna have to get some cruiserweights and the main thing is not the sparring," Stone explains, "the main thing is going to be the plyometrics and stuff that we do in preparation for the sparring."
