Bowe Sues Former Manager

Sources have told MaxBoxing that former heavyweight champion Riddick Bowe
has filed a $55 million suit against his former manager, Rock Newman, in the
state of New York, which alleges that Newman set up Spencer Promotions,
which promoted Bowe, to receive more than the 33% it was entitled to under
his management agreement.
The lawsuit states that Newman received 'unjust enrichment' and was in
'breach of contract' and took advantage of Bowe's unsophistication in such
business matters.
When reached for comment Newman said, "I swear, really there's no value.
I've looked at Riddick, when he was going through all of his problems and
doing a lot of self-destructive things, as a son or younger brother who had
lost his way. That didn't mean that I
don't love this guy like I love my closet family members. He's done a number
of things that are inexplicable and self-destructive- and this is
inexplicable and has no value to it. I love Riddick in spite of the way he's
behaved. I bear no ill-will or animosity. It's sad."
As for the lawsuit itself, Newman says, "I haven't seen it, I've only heard
about it. On the legality of it, just in terms of any strategy or anything
else, part of what I feel like is, perhaps someone is taking advantage of
Bowe. That if he's spending any money, it's such a useless exercise that
he's almost being taking advantage of. But I don't know what's happening, I
can only speculate."
"To know the kind of care and protection and love he was given," continued
Newman, "for this to take place, it sort of stands reason and logic on it's
head."
