Toney Outpunches Jirov to Win Cruiser Title;
Tarver Nabs Two Belts

James Toney used all his ring savvy and grit (and a 12th round knockdown) to wrest the IBF cruiserweight title from Vassiliy Jirov tonight at the Foxwoods Casino in Connecticut. Scores in the 12 round war were 117-109 (twice) and 116-110 for Toney.
In the HBO Boxing After Dark Co-Feature, Antonio Tarver won the WBC and IBF light heavyweight belts with a shutout 12 round decision over Montell Griffin. Scores were 120-106 (3x) for Tarver, who dropped Griffin in the first and 12th rounds. Full report from Peter Mooney to follow, as well as round by round coverage from Jason Probst.
