WBO lightweight champion Joel Casamayor showed that he still has something left in the tank at 36 years old as he stopped previously unbeaten Michael Katsidis in the tenth round of a drama-filled main event at the Morongo Casino Resort & Spa in Cabazon, California.

Casamayor (36-3-1, 22 KOs) dropped Katsidis (23-1, 20 KOs) twice with left hands in the opening minute of the bout, but the Australian worked his way back into the fight, even sending Casamayor out of the ring in the sixth round. A point deduction from Casamayor for a low blow in the ninth added to the intrigue, but as Katsidis recklessly chased after the Cuban to begin the tenth, Casamayor landed with a flush left hook that put his foe on the canvas. Katsidis rose, but a follow-up attack brought the stoppage at 30 seconds of the round.

In an entertaining co-feature, former world title challenger Librado Andrade ascended to the number one spot in the IBF super middleweight rankings with a punishing eighth round TKO over Germany-based Russian Robert Stieglitz (31-2, 19 KOs). The end came after Andrade (27-1, 21 KOs) stunned his game foe with a right hand and then followed up with a barrage that forced referee Ray Corona’s hand at the 2:53 mark.
