LOS ANGELES, March 8 – MaxBoxing.com, the leader and innovator in boxing coverage since 2001, is pleased to announce the addition of world-renowned boxing writer and analyst Steve Farhood to the website’s editorial team.

“Bringing Steve Farhood to MaxBoxing.com is like coming full circle for us,” said MaxBoxing co-editor Thomas Gerbasi. “We all grew up, literally and figuratively, on Steve’s writing and he was (and is) a huge influence on what we do here. To have a writer of his caliber on the team is an honor for the website, and a treat for our readers.”

Steve Farhood’s columns are a new feature for MaxBoxing.com's paid subscribers.

Other features available to MaxBoxing subscribers are weekly columns from veteran boxing scribes Kevin Iole of the Las Vegas Review Journal, Eric Raskin of The Ring magazine, co-editor Thomas Gerbasi, and boxing historian Martin Mulcahey, as well as access to the innovative boxing web show, "The Next Round".

Hosted by MaxBoxing co-editor Doug Fischer and lead writer Steve Kim, “The Next Round” provides an expert and in-depth analysis of weekly events in the world of boxing.
The show - which is quickly becoming the staple of our comprehensive coverage of the boxing industry - features fight highlights, training videos, pre-and post press conferences, and an interactive mailbag segment which involves subscribers in the show.

MaxBoxing has also aired a wide array of live events, classic bouts, and high-profile undercards to fight fans around the world. Among the live events aired were four bouts involving current WBC heavyweight champion Hasim Rahman (in association with Ballroom Boxing), and the WBU championship showdown between junior welterweight king Ricky "The Hitman" Hatton and Carlos Vilches (in association with Frank Warren’s Sports Network), with tape delayed fights featuring the likes of Arturo Gatti, Erik Morales, Jermain Taylor, Rocky Juarez, Juan Diaz, Joel Julio, Jason Litzau, and David Tua.

In 2006, MaxTV has already featured Brian Viloria’s first round title win over Eric Ortiz, and current welterweight title holder Antonio Margarito’s impressive stoppage of Hercules Kyvelos, in addition to featuring the off-TV undercards of Showtime’s popular ShoBox in association with Chicago’s 8 Count Productions.

ABOUT STEVE FARHOOD

Steve Farhood has been around the Sweet Science for 27 years, most of which were spent as editor-in-chief of “The Ring” and “KO” magazines.

Farhood works as an on-air analyst for Showtime’s “ShoBox” series, “Showtime Championship Boxing,” and the syndicated “Broadway Boxing” series. He also writes a column and features for “Boxing Monthly,” for which he serves as associate editor, and boxinginsider.com.

“My work on ShoBox has been so much fun,” Farhood said. “I love watching prospects develop, and since its inception in 2001, the series has showcased a handful of future world champs. And besides, what else is ever going to bring me to places like Concho, Oklahoma, and Lincoln City, Oregon?”

Farhood assumed command of “The Ring” in 1989, when London Publishing bought the title. “The Ring” subsequently regained much of the luster that was lost during the magazine’s financial struggle in the ‘80s. Farhood resigned the position in September 1997 to pursue other interests, specifically in the broadcasting industry.

In 1980, Farhood launched “KO” magazine.

A ringside fixture at big fights, Farhood has served as an on-air analyst for ESPN, SportsChannel, and "Heavyweight Explosion," and regularly contributed to the USA Network’s “Tuesday Night Fights.” He also worked for five years as CNN's boxing correspondent, and has contributed to boxing broadcasts on Fox and CBS.

In 1992, Farhood testified before Congress regarding boxing ratings.

In 1993, Farhood authored “Boxing: The 20th Century” (BDD Illustrated Books), which was released in both England and the USA.

For the past 14 years, Farhood has served as First Vice President of the Boxing Writers Association of America. For 2002, he won the BWAA award for Broadcaster of the Year.

Farhood is a member of the board of directors of F.I.S.T. (Fighters’ Initiative for Support & Training).

In 2001, Farhood organized and ran “Counterpunch!” a post-9-11 benefit that raised $50,000 for the Twin Towers Fund. In a career filled with highlights, he considers the benefit, which was held at the legendary Gleason’s Gym, his most noteworthy achievement.

The 49-year-old Farhood, a lifelong resident of New York City, lives in Manhattan with his wife, Marcia McCaffrey. Among his hobbies, he lists going to fights, watching fights on TV, taping fights, analyzing fights, reading about fights, and only occasionally, missing fights.

Farhood is also a columnist for “All In,” a poker magazine.
