Fighting in front of his home crowd was not the only advantage that Scott Harrison had against Argentina´s Pablo Chacon. In fact, it was the smallest of his advantages, as he unequivocally outsmarted, outhustled and outboxed his foe throughout the duration of the hostilities, defeating him by scores of 117-111 (twice) and 117-112 to capture the WBO featherweight title in a championship tiebreaker.
Chacon was coming off a long layoff, during which Harrison had been awarded the interim title, but that makes for an insufficient excuse for the former 1996 bronze medalist from Mendoza, Argentina, who now stands at 44&Mac246;3 (31 KOs) after being on the receiving end of Harrison´s long jab, effective right lead and looping hook for the entire fight.
Harrison got to a good start using his long jab and backing Chacon constantly. By the middle rounds, his constant pressure was already leaving a mark in Chacon´s face. A tepid outbreak of combinations by the champ earned him a few late rounds, but Harrison did nothing but stick to his plan, and capped his remarkable effort with solid punches throughout the final episode, to the delight of a packed house at Glasgow´s Braehead Arena.
It was as disappointing a showing for the Argentine as it was a triumphant achievement for the new belt holder, who now stands at 18-1-1 and confirms the interim title that he had won against Victor Santiago in June, after Chacon had pulled out due to a left shoulder injury.
