Berto gets his revenge, knocks out Ortiz
By John J. Raspanti: Revenge is best served cold. Former welterweight champion Andre Berto (31-4, 24 KOs) was icy in knocking out Victor Ortiz (31-6-2, 24 KOs) in round four Saturday night at the StubHub Center in Carson, CA. Berto, 32, came out jabbing in the opening stanza. Ortiz surprised many, including Berto, by boxing from the outside. By the end of the round, Ortiz, 29, was bleeding from his hairline courtesy of an accidental head butt. Ortiz circled to his right in round two...

A sequel five years too late: Victor Ortiz and Andre Berto do it again By John J. Raspanti (Photo © German Villasenor, MaxBoxing.com): Trying to predict what will happen in the ring this Saturday night, when former world champions Victor Ortiz (31-5-2, 24 KOs) and Andre Berto (30-4, 23 KOs) meet for the second time, is equivalent to predicting the outcome of this year’s election. One thing is certain--it’s likely to be a train wreck, but an extremely entertaining one...

Wade’s chances against Golovkin viewed as slim-to-none By John J. Raspanti: WBA and IBF middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin will be gunning for knockout victory number 22 in a row when he faces little-known Dominic Wade April 23rd) at the Fabulous Forum in Los Angeles, CA. Wade, the IBF’s mandatory challenger, gained his dubious shot against Golovkin by beating veteran Sam Solliman last June. Golovkin admitted a few months ago that he’d never heard of the 25-year-old Wade, who was born in Largo, Maryland. He’s not the only one...

Spence sends Algieri packing in round five By John J. Raspanti: Rising star welterweight Errol Spence (20-0, 17 KOs) passed the toughest test of his young career by stopping former WBO junior welterweight champion Chris Algieri (21-3, 8 KOs) in Round five at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York Saturday night. Southpaw Spence came out firing in the opening stanza--pumping jabs in Algieri’s face. Algieri, 32, used the ring and looked for ways to counter. Spence cracked Algieri with a hard right to the rib cage. A few seconds later..
